Vanity Fair career interview

Vanity Fair profile — “David Edward Byrd, Whose Illustrations Defined the Look of Rock, Looks Back on 50 Years.”

On October 9, 2015, Vanity Fair published a major career interview with Byrd under the title “David Edward Byrd, Whose Illustrations Defined the Look of Rock, Looks Back on 50 Years.”

The piece is a primary late-career oral-history source — cited on Wikipedia — covering Fillmore East, Broadway, and his long view of commercial illustration as real art.

Byrd’s line “It’s all art… After all John Singer Sargent had to please the Astors” frames his refusal to treat client work as selling out — a theme that also runs through the Warner Bros. and estate chapters.

Keep this press stop distinct from the 2015 Byrds Benelux tribute poster (a separate Poster Child plate for a 1971 Dutch concert that never had an original sheet).
