Rennert’s Gallery poster auction · 25th anniversary

In 1997, Byrd was commissioned to create a poster for the twenty-fifth anniversary poster auction held at Rennert’s Gallery in New York City.

By the 1990s the Fillmore East programs and posters Byrd had once ignored — his own copies stored away with rusting staples — were selling for hundreds of dollars at auction. Jack Rennert’s Poster Auctions International in New York was the marquee sale, and in 1997 Rennert commissioned Byrd to design the poster for the twenty-fifth annual auction.

Byrd noted the irony that the auction poster itself became a collectible. Rennert is thanked in the acknowledgments of Poster Child.
