Byrd created this 1989 illustration for his portfolio. After his move to Los Angeles in 1981, Byrd realized he needed product illustrations in his portfolio to secure advertising agency work.

By 1989 Byrd had been in Los Angeles eight years, was clear of methadone, and was rebuilding a commercial portfolio — TV Guide covers, The Advocate, product work — that would lead to the Warner Bros. Consumer Products job two years later. This illustration was made for that portfolio.
