Byrd designed a different program cover every year for the Fillmore East — unusual printed programs for rock shows.

Byrd designed a different program cover every year for the Fillmore East. Printed programs were unusual for rock shows, but Fillmore founder Bill Graham sought a more theatrical presentation.

Bill Graham’s Fillmore East sold printed programs with advertising, and they made money — Byrd designed a different program cover every year. He kept a bundle himself and paid them no attention; today, as he ruefully noted, they change hands for hundreds of dollars.
