Come Out & Sing Together · NY Gay Choral Festival

1982 New York Gay Choral Festival poster — LGBTQ cultural design alongside Advocate art direction.

Come Out & Sing Together (1982) expands the gay-advocacy design chapter beyond Christopher Street (1976) and The Advocate (1984–86).

“Pierrot in Gotham” was Byrd’s theme for the first Gay Choral Festival, held in Manhattan in 1982, when gay choruses from across the country came to New York to compete. He set the Pierrot figure against New York landmarks and kept all the event information in a single green box at the foot of the sheet.

Byrd was assisted in the design and execution by his partner Jolino Beserra — one of their early collaborations, and a poster Byrd called a personal favorite.
